This Swine Life: Pig Named Six Seven Spared by Miami Dade County Leader.
While perhaps not at the same level as sparing Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a presidential-style act this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued since the beginning of a new presidential term.
“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.”
The event, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The animal, contributed by a local firefighter, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “six seven” – originating from a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The craze became so ubiquitous that a leading lexicon site recently named “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
The pardoned swine is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to begin the holiday season,” said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It represents the character of Miami: happy, varied, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Every time, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”
Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and strong coffee as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
