This young athlete has considerable social media audience
The young golfer can count on multiple well-known supporters as she starts her professional golf debut on Thursday.
The 18-year-old athlete, who is connected to a former US president, was granted a sponsor's invitation to compete at Florida's Annika event in Florida.
The former president, a passionate golfer, owns multiple courses worldwide and often matches against his granddaughter.
"He's fairly competent. I shouldn't elaborate but we play some close matches," she stated.
The golfer shared that her grandfather, who won't be present, advised her: "Just don't get nervous."
"He practically suggested to compete and have fun," she explained.
"In my eyes, he's just a normal grandpa. He's not attending this weekend. He's busy with presidential duties, making him somewhat preoccupied."
While still amateur, Kai has participated in a mere three competitions this year and has ranking 461 in AJGA listings.
However she's able to seek guidance from Tiger Woods, romantically involved with her mother.
"He represents the best player worldwide," the young golfer said.
"Additionally, he's a more impressive person. He advised me to go out there, relax, following whatever happens."
Kai will face several top competitors in women's golf at the Annika, such as world number two Nelly Korda, England's Charley Hull, professional Thompson and last year's winner Lilia Vu.
Tournament organizers mentioned that her participation brings golf to wider groups, especially among younger fans.
Kai boasts millions of followers and recently launched her own clothing and lifestyle label.
The competition starts at 5:30 PM GMT.
