Should Bellingham aims to earn his place once again into the English strongest team, it would be smart to do away with the unnecessary reactions. The way he reacted when he saw that his number was being shown after an evening of mixed performance in the match against Albania fell short of expectations.

"I prefer not to overstate it but I stick to my words 'attitude matters' and consideration for the players who substitute on," Tuchel said. "Decisions are made and you must accept them being a professional."

Bellingham has to learn. There was no call for an outburst. His arms went up in exasperation and while he accepted the coach's hand after making his way to the bench it was clear that the manager was displeased.

This is the challenge that Bellingham must overcome. He congratulated Rashford for sending in the ball for the captain to nod home his second of the night, but his other actions was harmful to his cause. There was no chance protesting was going to reverse the substitution. Tuchel has talked so much about following squad protocols and the value of acting professionally.

The midfielder, not included in the team last month, has faced close inspection after returning to the team this month. In effect he has been on trial and his actions haven't benefited him through his behavior to coming off the pitch as the national team completed a perfect qualifying campaign by overcoming a feisty challenge from their opponents.

An unnecessary confrontation with a rival player early on. England were ragged for much of the second half. An opportunity for Albania resulted from Bellingham gave the ball away. His booking came after he was dispossessed from Broja and committed a foul on Broja.

Squad Strength Shows

In the end the squad's strength made the difference. Tuchel threw on the Manchester City player, who seemed better suited to the role that Bellingham had played during the first half, and Bukayo Saka. Later Saka provided a corner kick for Harry Kane to break the deadlock. It highlighted that dead-ball situations will be crucial in the upcoming tournament.

Relationship Not Broken

However, Bellingham was the story. The brilliance of Rashford's cross for Kane’s header was partly forgotten amid the drama of the substitution incident. When the match concluded, all eyes were on the midfielder. Tuchel walked up behind him and pushed the Real Madrid midfielder towards the travelling England fans. The bond between them is not damaged. Tuchel is not willing to abandon the player just yet. Yet whether Tuchel is inclined to offer him the central position is still uncertain.
