Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Retains The Club's Support After PSV Defeat
Arne Slot conceded that it was expected for concerns to be raised about his future following a further convincing loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their ninth loss in 12 games, marking the team's poorest run after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing evening at Anfield.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I've received significant backing from above,” Slot stated.
“It would be great to change things and earn three points of course but when you're working as a coach and not doing well then it's expected that doubts arise.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my role. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a difficult position but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with Club Management
When asked to elaborate on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach explained:
“We talk a lot. They assist to the team and to me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me constantly of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “During our regular exchanges I perceive the trust. But I've not talked to them since this match yet so we'll see.”
Recurring Problems and Player Response
The manager highlighted familiar shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, specifically wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his view of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to all,” Jones remarked.
“It’s just not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I’m past feeling anger inside. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I've watched this club all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a period of this nature with results so bad.”
Jones stated, “But we still have the crest on our chest. And until it is gone, we’re always going to compete.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad back to its rightful place, prove once more what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the greatest side in the world.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
