Six Suspects Apprehended Following 12 Million Euro Armed Raid on Precious Metals Facility in the French Republic

A group of six individuals equipped with high-powered firearms used explosive devices to breach the security of a gold refining laboratory located in the city of Lyon, slightly injuring five staff members during described as the most recent prominent daylight theft to occur in France.

The bold operation was carried out on Thursday afternoon, with officers quickly arresting the suspected perpetrators and securing the stolen items assessed at around 12 million euros (£10.5M), according to officials.

Five workers of the precious metals facility received light wounds from the blast, and three employees required hospital checks for examination, according to regional authorities. Twenty-eight employees were at the location when the thieves struck.

The individuals, considered seasoned offenders, were arrested soon afterwards in the neighboring community of the town of Vénissieux, a source close to the investigation stated.

A female participant who took part in the robbery was likewise arrested, a police source indicated.

“Six suspects who utilized explosives in a raid against a precious metals company in Lyon were arrested at the scene,” the French interior minister stated online, praising officers for their “firmness, rapid response and command”.

Military-style weapons, pistols and explosive materials were likewise seized.

The robbery occurred as French police on the same day detained five further people, including a primary suspect, in relation to this month's brazen Louvre museum robbery.
